Some Recent Artwork

Hello!

So I have been spending a lot of time doing artwork the past few months. Everything from large canvas's to small ink drawings on paper. I have recently fell in love with spray paint and airbrushing which has added a nice new dimension to my larger work, it just helps add a texture/feeling that previously I felt missing.

So with all this work I have now collected a lot of finished art and plan on setting them loose into the world very soon. I will be adding some new stuff to my online store and also could possibly be having an exhibition in the near future.

Check out the store here and below I have added a few images of some recent work, finished paintings all the way through to scribbles on paper. If you see anything you like and would like to purchase some original art get in touch through my email andrew@drewportfolio.com

New Book Cover Design Now In Print

Another one of my book cover designs has went to print. Did this one about a year ago now and really cool to see it in print form. I now have a few books out in the shops now, if you see this one or Tideland in your local store pick them up for a good read and some decent artwork.

Just received my copies of "Tideland" by Mitch Cullin with my cover design.

So I just received my copies of the amazing novel "Tideland" by Mitch Cullin with my cover design. I have to say it looks really good in person. I have been looking at it on the screen for the last year or two looking forward to seeing it on the cover when the fourth print edition was released. Today I got my first copies and was really impressed with the quality.

You can now purchase the book with my cover on Amazon and in a good book store near you very soon.

I also recommend you watching the movie of the same title directed by Terry Gilliam. A great movie and really captures the feeling of the book.

Also check out Mitch Cullin's other books, have a search on Amazon and if you like Tideland check out the rest.

My Artwork now the official cover design for the novel Tideland by Mitch Cullin.

So my cover design for Tideland is now officially the printed cover. Here is a photo from the author Mitch Cullin showing a few copies. Thanks again to Mitch for using my artwork for the cover of his awesome book. I recommend giving it a read and also watching the film version directed by Terry Gilliam.

Just a quick post on the run, will do a longer one when I have time.

'The Last Dragon King' Book Cover

A new freelance design job I just finished. I like how the painting turned out in this one. This was such a fun project to do and David gave me free reign to create this artwork and i'm really happy with the outcome.

David has written a great book and it was a pleasure to create this cover for him. Keep a look out as the book is being released very soon.

Here is a nice testimonial he gave me:

"Andrew's site was the first one I came across in the search for a cover designer and I fell in love with his work straight away. I knew he was the right one. When it came to actually receiving my cover design he did not disappoint. I was almost shaking it was so perfect. Andrew took the time to read my work to get a better feel for it and this is reflected in his vision of my cover. He produced exactly what I had in mind." - David Edward Ratcliffe

Locum Pharmacist Business Card

I just finished a business card design for a Locum Pharmacist.

This was quite a tricky project as there is not much research that can be found on pharmacy related business cards and any that I did find were extremely bad and very uninspiring. So I had to approach this with a fresh mind.

The client wanted something that was visually attractive but got her details across effectively.

We came to the conclusion that incorporating a few pills or medical symbols would not be the way to go as it is very dull and very cliche. We instead decided to go for an abstract background design that wouldn't over power the text and a elegant soft colour that would make it stand out from the other generic pharmacy locum cards, so that when that company needed a locum they would reach for her card first.

This card is the outcome. It has the bold white text that can easily be read which is primary, It is attractive and eye catching yet elegant without being over powering. Subtlety was the most important aspect when designing this card as it would have been really easy to go for a bright saturated purple and high contrast background design that would loose the texts readability.

Both the client and I are very happy with the final outcome which is all you can ask for.

Tae Kwon-do Flyer

This is a flyer I recently created for a Tae Kwon-do instructor in London to promote his classes. I had some fun with the design as he was more open to whatever ideas I thought appropriate. He wanted something modern that would stand out from the crowd so this is what we ended up with at the end. I am really happy with the outcome and so is the customer which is what I aim for when doing a project.

Watercolour

A quick watercolour drawing on A3 Bristol board. I found that the Bristol board is the best paper yet that I have used with watercolours, nice and thick (not much warping).

I Am Legend Book Cover Re-Design Alternative Versions.

This is a different take on the I Am Legend Book Cover i re-designed as part of my fourth year honours degree in University last year.

For the actual final design I went with a black and white version but this was only to please the tutors, I always liked the colour versions better and here are two of the alternative takes on the cover. The greens and yellows symbolise the infection that is responsible for the vampirism in the book.

I personally prefer the cover with the more subdued and muted colours, I just feel that visually it works better but the more lime green bright cover would certainly attract a passer bye's attention on a book store shelf.
