We started the day at Rathven Church (near Buckie), it was a very rainy and dull day which is obviously not ideal for a wedding to say the least but I knew we could make it work. My approach to any photographic situation is to make the most of it, if it is pouring rain then let's use that to our advantage and make some fun images using that rain, make the rain a prop in our photo's rather than our enemy. Due to the weather conditions I knew before even shooting a frame that black and white would look awesome for most out door shots especially sing my Carl Zeiss lenses which really excel for monochrome shooting. Also soon as I went into the church I saw that the dull weather outside was creating a really nice diffused light coming through the large stain glass windows which looked great, so this horrible weather was working out pretty good already, photographically at least (i'm sure some guests might not have liked getting wet).
After the church we gathered outside for some guests shots and for the bride and groom to make their exit and head off for Duff house where we would do some family formals and get the bride and groom portraits. Duff House is a perfect place for this kind of photography (if you don't know Duff House I suggest you google it, it looks amazing and has a lot of interesting history). Old stone walls that has great texture, big outdoor staircase, amazing indoor locations, you would be hard pushed to find a better location. after doing the family formals I spent half an hour with Eilidh and Stuart getting some candid and some posed shots inside and outside where the umbrella had to come into play. This is what I meant by making the most of weather conditions, the umbrella actually made for some much more interesting images, adding a bit of humour as well as making for some really nice classic photographs. Eilidh and Stuart were having fun and that comes through in the photographs.
After our rainy photo's outside we all headed up to the Banff Springs where the cake cutting, speeches, dinner and dance would take place making for a great end to a great day. In true Scottish fashion the following day was blistering sunshine but to be honest I think the dull rainy weather made for really cool photographs and it defineitely didn't dampen anyone's spirits.
Congrats again to Stuart & Eilidh!
Here is a selection of image sI feel tells the story of the day.
A rainy start to the day
A nice atmosphere in the church
Groom and best man.
Bus load of guests arrive
Mother of the bride
Love how Eilidh is looking over Stuart's shoulder here.
That's one happy bride
She can't keep the smile off her face, surely a good sign.
Duff House
It was an effort to get the kids to stay still so this is the only family formal I will really put up, they are both nearly looking at the camera.
Using the sweets to control the kids
A nice candid moment in between all the family formals
It was raining quite bad so a good opportunity for some umbrella shots.
They were having fun with this pose
dash to the car with umbrellas
Abandoned hat
Someone's bored
Some high intensity dancing going on
I feel that selection of images tells the story of the day. It was great day, full of great moments. As I said earlier we never let the weather put a damper on the day.
Congratulations again to Stuart and Eilidh and all the best!
