Chase Jarvis's Dasein: An invitation to Hang.

World renowned photographer Chase Jarvis recently announced a new project. Dasein : An invitation to hang. It is a gallery exhibition that celebrates the snapshot.

The snapshot is the most overlooked style of photography and I have always thought this. In fact about 50% of all my images are snapshots, admitingly they are street shots or captures with some nice cameras but also with very cheap lo-fi cameras too. Its about catching a moment that only you can capture at that exact moment. Most of these shots simply sit on people's hard drives or are printed and are confined to a life in a dusty box at the bottom of a cupboard. I have always printed mine or put them on my flickr, website, facebook etc so that people can see them rather than have them hidden away.

I really admire what Chase is doing with this project, giving people the chance to get there snapshots displayed in a New York gallery alongside his images and other famous photographers from around the world. I really like that is all done anonymously so that it is purely for the art of the snapshot rather than for any personal gain for Chase or any other photographer, it is to purely celebrate the snapshot and its importance in modern day life.

Check out this video for some more info and a brief look at Chase putting up some images in the gallery space. I have two images up there near the end of the video which was pretty cool to see.

A Study Of Trees

I never knew how interesting photographing trees could be. I collected all my photographs that I had taken that had featured trees for some weird reason and found them to be kind of interesting. So I have decided to start a long running project dedicated to photographing trees. Here are some shots I have taken over the past year or two.

Stories From The Underground

Photographs(usually portraits)I have taken on the London underground. Shots that look like they could be part of a story, movie, short movie e.t.c. Thats the general idea.

This is a new ongoing project that i hope to continue for at least a year.

I like having some direction when taking photographs. I feel that it helps me get better if I'm thinking about what I'm doing rather than just going around photographing everything I see. I like to have a focus that i can concentrate on and I recommend every photographer or keen snapshooter to try this as it can be a lot of fun and you have a cool project to look back on in the future. I have done this a few times before using different topics which are still ongoing just now. 'Bargain Basement Hotel Series' is a photographic project that i started a year ago, which is my documentation of all the cheap crappy hotel rooms that i have stayed in while traveling to see gigs throughout Europe. I will post up this project here at a later date when i find some time.

Anyway this is the beginning of a long project for me that i look forward to continuing throughout the year. Why not give something like this a go yourself, think you'll be pleasantly surprised how fun and rewarding it can be.

Cheers!
